Carnivore Diet

Description

A diet that consists primarily of meat and animal products. From an evolutionary perspective, the human body is adapted to an animal-based diet rich in fat and protein, with minimal intake of exogenous carbohydrates. Wild predators instinctively target the fattest parts of their prey—organs, marrow, and fat—because these provide the highest energy density and hormonal stability. Ancient humans did the same, prioritizing fatty cuts, bone marrow, and organ meat long before agriculture existed. A carnivore diet aligns with this ancestral pattern by supplying a steady, fat-based fuel source that eliminates blood sugar fluctuations and results in exceptionally stable glucose levels. It also improves key metabolic markers: triglycerides decrease, LDL particle size shifts toward the larger and less inflammatory pattern, and HDL increases. Additionally, testosterone levels tend to rise because low insulin states reduce SHBG suppression and avoid insulin-driven inhibition of testosterone production. Overall, this diet stabilizes glucose, optimizes lipid markers, supports hormonal health, and reduces inflammation.

Nutrient density: Meat and organ foods provide highly bioavailable nutrients. Vitamin C is present in animal foods—especially liver—where it is efficiently absorbed due to low carbohydrate intake and reduced competition from glucose. Many vitamins and minerals reach optimal levels on a carnivore diet; however, anecdotal evidence suggests that some electrolytes, especially magnesium, may be challenging to obtain in sufficient amounts and should be supplemented if deficiency symptoms appear.

Histamine sensitivity: This diet should be combined with a low-histamine approach if you are sensitive to histamine. In that case, only consume fresh, frozen meat or gas-packed or vacuum-packed meat to minimize histamine buildup.

Quality of meat – extremely important: For optimal health outcomes, the diet should prioritize grass-fed and regeneratively farmed meat from animals raised outdoors, living naturally, and eating their species-appropriate diet. Meat from regeneratively raised animals contains higher nutrient density, a healthier fat profile, and fewer inflammatory compounds. Wild game is also an excellent choice, offering superior micronutrient quality and completely natural feeding conditions.
